What is the Global 6K for Water?

On Saturday, May 4, 2019, thousands of people will join the world’s largest 6K walk for clean water and walk or run for an extraordinary cause – bringing clean water to children and their families. Every $50 registration provides clean water for one child. You can help a child fulfill their dreams, instead of filling up buckets of water. Last year, 48,000 people participated in the Global 6K to provide clean water to 63,000 people.

Why walk for clean water?

Clean water frees children from deadly diseases, liberates women and children from a life spent gathering dirty water, and opens the door to education, a promising future, and a full life. Right now, nearly 1,000 children under age 5 die every day from diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene – more than AIDS and malaria combined. But we believe the global water and sanitation crisis can be solved within our lifetimes.

How do I sign up?

Registration is $50, which provides clean water for one person. You can go to https://www.teamworldvision.org/team/11047 to register, at any time, and join Faith’s team.

How will my $50 registration fee be used?

$50 provides clean water for one person. Funds raised will be used to dig new water wells, build handwashing stations, improve water infrastructure and pipelines, train community members to maintain these projects, and more. The more people who register, the more children and families who get clean water. It’s that simple!

Why 6 kilometers? Aren’t most races 5k or 10k?

The distance is significant. 6 kilometers is approximately 3.7 miles. 6 kilometers is the average distance people – usually women and girls – walk to get water for their families and homes in the developing world. Often, the walk is dangerous, children miss school, and the water is dirty. On May 4, every step you take is one they don’t have to.

I’m not a runner. Can I still participate?

Yes! You can walk or run. This race is for everyone, no matter age, size, gender or fitness level. The distance doesn’t require significant physical fitness, the time commitment is minimal, and the registration fee isn’t too costly. It’s an easy – and meaningful – way to spend time together as a family or with friends and neighbors. And If you aren’t able to participate in the Global 6K, you can still make a financial contribution. In addition, Faith Team World Vision needs helpers to register people, get the word out, staff the start/finish line and cheer stations!
