Meet Our Staff
Pastor Charlotte Lohrenz
I am thankful that I have always known that I belong to God. The presence of Jesus Christ has helped me through some difficult times in life and is always a source of joy, peace and challenge.
I felt called to serve in the church from an early age, but, also, had a deep interest in the created world, how things work and why. After a degree in science writing from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, I received a Masters of Divinity from Yale Divinity School, New Haven, CT. Ordained by the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1986, I have served churches in Connecticut, New York, Maryland, and Virginia. Congregations that are called to do a new thing for the sake of the gospel have always captured my heart, mind and energy.
Faith Presbyterian Church has my attention, imagination and love! I am so privileged, as a pastor, to journey with people as we find what God is bringing about in our lives. At Faith, we continue traditions of excellence in worship and music, caring ministries and service. And we are finding new ways to share the story of Jesus and his love with our neighbors, families with small children, youth and those in life transitions.
My husband of 22 years, Gene Shipman, is retired from a career in city management, which is a good thing because he has time to be the cook for our two teenage daughters and dog walker for our enthusiastic but poorly trained Weimaraner (not that I am making any comparisons).
For spiritual and physical health, I keep in touch with good friends, get a yearly fix of the Rocky Mountains, run slowly, read mysteries and memoirs, appreciate dark and/or hoppy beer and seem to always have dirt under my fingernails, because I can’t resist checking if one of my plants needs to be watered.
You can contact me through the church at 317-849-1930 or email@example.com. I post periodically on our facbook group page “Faith Presbyterian Church Indianapolis.”
I moved to Indianapolis in October 2009 from southern Indiana. I worked as a Human Resource Assistant at Golden Rule Insurance for 18 years before becoming a Financial Administrator at First Baptist Church in Vincennes, IN. I had been pursuing a job in the Indianapolis area for over a year and had received no responses at all. I saw a job listed for an Office Administrator at Faith and applied and within two days, I received a call to come for an interview, was offered the position shortly after that and within two weeks I was here. There was no doubt that God brought me here to serve the congregation at Faith. I have two married daughters who live in the Greenwood area which was a big reason for relocating. I have a son who lives with his wife in Dallas, TX. I am blessed to enjoy three grandchildren, Natalie, Greyson and Landon. They are the joy in my life. I attend the Southport United Methodist Church and enjoy spending lots of time with family and friends. I love my job and am very excited to be able serve at Faith Presbyterian Church.
Choir Director, Organist/Pianist
I have been organist at Faith since the fall of 1999. I grew up in northwest Iowa and attended Dordt College, graduating in 1997 with a B.A. in Church Music and emphasis on organ. I moved to the Indianapolis area in 1998 and worked at Butler University as an accompanist for a year until my daughter was born. In 2002, I became certified as a Colleague of American Guild of Organists. I love getting to know so many people at Faith and have made many friends and memories here! I especially enjoy getting to serve God through music each Sunday! I live with my husband, Curt, and daughter, Anika, in Fishers. You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Minister of Visitation
I grew up in Chicago, graduated from Purdue, married Pat, my wife of 49 years, in Chicago, and joined the Navy. Like many members of Faith, I have not been a life-long Presbyterian. However, I have been a life-long believer in Christ!. I came to Faith in 1986 after Pat and I were transferred by the Navy from Philadelphia to the former Naval Avionics Center on 21st street. We came with two teenage children and bought a house within a five minute drive of Faith. We had been very active at a Methodist church in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and had expected to remain Methodists until we met and fell in love with the people at Faith; eventually I became an Elder on session, taught Sunday School and Bible Study classes, and attended the PC(USA) General Assembly in Denver. My Navy career ended in retirement in 1989, and after a few years in Indiana State government, I found my third career when I began the Commissioned Lay Pastor program of the Synod of Lincoln Trails, completing it and being commissioned as the part-time pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Greenfield, Indiana, where I have served since April 2001. Pat and I made so many wonderful friends at Faith, and, as Minister of Visitation I have the opportunity to continue to enjoy these friendships and serve God at the same time!
Dawn Band Director/Musikgarten Teacher
I was born in Mishawaka, Indiana into a musical family with a father who plays trombone/ a middle school band director and my mother who plays the saxophone/ a choir director. Through grade school I started learning the piano and sang in the choir. In high school I played the French Horn but was drawn away by the bass guitar at the age of 15. I have been fortunate to have studied bass under Jon. E. Gee (John Mellencamp) and Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck and the Flecktones), among others. My time at Faith Presbyterian began in 2007 as a member of the Dawn Band. I am also a licensed Musikgarten instructor and run the God’s Children Sing Program at Faith. I am happily married, have a young daughter, and we are all blessed to get to worship God every sunday morning with such a wonderful congregation.
