Time flies. It seems like we just celebrated Christmas in July and it is already time for the Westminster Christmas Basket and Gifts event to begin. This is joyful endeavor. Each Christmas season Westminster Neighborhood Services supports 300 families with two weeks’ worth of food as well as Christmas gifts and clothing for children 18 and younger.

Christmas in July helped Faith get a head start on providing 600 bath-size bars of soap and 600 boxes of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix. We still need 310 bars of soap and 425 boxes of Jiffy Mix. You can drop off donations any time the church is open. You can track the progress of our collection on the Christmas Tree and Candy Cane displayed at the Welcome Center. When the ornaments and the star are on the tree and the bow is on the candy cane, the goal is reached.

You might also like to participate in providing for the children of the Westminster families by selecting a stocking or stockings from the display. When you have selected your stocking(s), please remember to sign out for them on the sheets at the Welcome Center in the narthex

Faith has committed to shopping for 70 children.  Each stocking provides the requested gift for the child and clothing sizes. The amount spent on the gift should be about $25. You can purchase something that is priced more than that, but after buying on sale and/or using coupons you shouldn’t spend more than $25. Wrap the gift, attach the child’s stocking tag to it, and place the gift in the provided gift bag. Clothing purchases-socks, undies, hat, and gloves or mittens-should be placed unwrapped in the same provided bag. Return the gift/clothing bags to the narthex.

All of the donations of soap, Jiffy Mix, and gifts with clothing need to be at the church by, Tuesday, December 3. Members of  Faith’s Mission Team will deliver the items to Westminster and they  will be distributed to the families on Saturday, December 14.
