Pulitzer Prizewinner Timothy Egan published this book last year. It is a gripping page turner of the violent crimes of Texan D.C. Stephenson, his political ambitions, and con artistry.

There are fascinating characters in this narrative of true events, notably Madge Oberholtzer, whose courage through incredible suffering is key. This book may become the choice of our next Love One Another book study, and I recommend it regardless of whether you decide to participate.

How does this historical account of events in Indianapolis 100 years ago change your understanding of white supremacy in our midst?

Trigger warning: some of what takes place in the book is violent sexual assault, so it is not suitable for everyone.
