Did you know that as early as a few months old, babies start to prefer faces that are the same race as their parents? Often our own discomfort surrounding race can result in avoiding the topic altogether when talking with the kids in our lives, but kids still see and recognize differences.

It’s important to talk about race with our kids and grandchildren from a very young age, because they will develop an understanding of their own race and the race of others with or without our input. Discussing race with kids helps them form a healthy and complete identity, and gives them the tools to heal when they experience or witness unfairness.
