The focus of Love One Another is to educate others to help understand an anti-racist perspective. In past articles, we have shared current and historical information about both groups of people and individuals. Here are some other Indianapolis-area opportunities to learn about others by volunteering your time and talents through these resources.
In the area around 82nd and Hague, our congregation partners with other groups and organizations that are doing good work and serving the community, like The Sharing Place, Westminster Neighborhood Services, and Family Promise. All these organizations, by the nature of their work, help to address systemic issues which disproportionately affect racial minorities.
Listen to our Future offers various programs and services in support of their mission (equipping youth to make long-lasting changes in their community through education, empowerment, and social action), including tutoring, field trips, project-based learning, and work-based learning. They also have a resource library which is accepting supply donations.
Lilly Endowment Inc. is supporting Volunpair, an Indianapolis volunteer hub. Volunpair provides a way to search the many nonprofit volunteer opportunities and connect with such organizations as St. Vincent de Paul 30th Street Food Pantry, Martin Luther King Community Center, and 100 Black Men of Indianapolis.
Another site with volunteer opportunities is Do317, which shares opportunities for people who love the outdoors, people who love to read, and people who want to help feed others!
Find an opportunity to volunteer or share some volunteer opportunities you know with someone you know or in the comments on our post.
