Opportunities to Give
Westminster Neighborhood Services
Westminster is always in need of non-perishable food items. You can always drop off these needed items at the church during office hours or Sunday morning or evening. Come in the office doors, turn right and just place the items in the correct blue bin on the right-hand wall. Every week a member of the congregation takes the items to the correct location.
Supporting Lawrence Township Services
Faith donates to The Cupboard, Lawrence Township’s food pantry. Faith works with SHARE, a program that provides activities for students during school breaks. Faith provides transportation for the students, money for scholarships, chaperones, space to meet, and some help with planning. You can find out more about this important program at https://www.share-lt.org.
Indy Reads
Indy Reads is a local not-for-profit organization that works to promote adult literacy in Central Indiana. Faith has supported Indy Reads with monetary donations in the past, and since Indy Reads opened its independent bookstore, Indy Reads Books, on Mass Ave., Faith members have donated used books, CDs, and DVDs. The revenue from Indy Reads Books is used to support Indy Reads. The bookstore offers used and new books for sale, makes space available for meetings, sponsors reading-related events, and provides a location for tutoring for adults. The mission team sponsors an ongoing materials collection and makes periodic deliveries to Indy Reads Books.
Clear Your Clutter Day (CYCD)
Each spring, Faith reaches out to support the local community by providing a day and a place to recycle and repurpose household items. Items donated benefit Habitat Re-Store and Thrifty Threads. Disposal of e-waste and on-site shredding of documents are also options on that day. Donations are accepted from participants and are used in combination with Mission Team funds to make financial contributions to Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity and The Julian Center. Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity builds homes to provide affordable housing for families, and The Julian Center supports victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and other life crises. Clear Your Clutter Day 2024 will be Saturday, April 20.
Crafty Foxes
If you sew or knit, you might consider sharing your talents with Faith’s Crafty Foxes. This group ministers to others using their skills to create items of comfort that are donated to appropriate groups and organizations. Westminster is just one of their many beneficiaries, and many former Faith youth were grateful recipients of a handmade quilt as they marked their passage from high school.
Special Offerings of the PC(USA)
The Mission Team promotes the four special offerings of the PC(USA)–One Great Hour of Sharing, the Pentecost Offering, the Peace and Global Witness Offering, and the Christmas Joy Offering. Faith retains a portion of the Pentecost Offering and the Peace and Global Witness Offering. In the past, our portion with an additional amount from the Mission Team budget has been used to support the Lawrence Community Gardens and the Indianapolis TenPoint Coalition. We provide financial support for youth farmers at the Lawrence Community Gardens as they learn about nutrition and acquire gardening and business skills while providing fresh produce for the local community. Our financial support of the Indianapolis TenPoint Coalition assists in its work to control crime and violence in our community.
Mission Sunday
Usually a Sunday in September is chosen to highlight and celebrate the missions supported by Faith. The Mission Team plans and prepares for this Sunday and for the various mission events in which Faith participates throughout the year. The hands and feet that make those events and activities a success belong to the worshippers at Faith. You are the ones who share your time, talents, and treasure to make a positive impact in the world.
